We recently completed a complex job in Georgia for a customer with data center sites across the nation. Our Senior Project Engineer, Dave Mortimer and team worked to engineer a custom solution to utilize existing battery strings – saving the customer money and eliminating risk by replacing failing strings. There were many moving parts, locations.
We removed (8) 240-cell strings of UII 3AVR/95-33 modular systems that were at end of life and replaced them with an engineered solution incorporating a (24) rack open design. Working between 2- data center sites, we removed and repurposed (1040) HX505 batteries we installed 2 years ago at another site in Georgia. Concurrently, we supported installation of (4) new 1.2-Meg UPS modules.
In the end, we ultimately saved the customer over $250K finding a way to reuse good batteries coming out of one site and repurposing them for another site’s failing battery systems. All (8) UPS system battery string replacements were executed and safely completed while maintaining 1800kW of customers critical load without interruption.
We also took an additional (160) HX505’s from this same site and replaced batteries for (2) UPS modules that failed during a storm situation. We can’t stress the importance of proper battery maintenance and replacement. Supporting our customers and delivering results is our top priority. Our comprehensive maintenance programs can often avoid emergency situations. However, if an emergency does arise, we will always provide a solution. When on is the only option, choose Sure Power!
